What F9E2 Means
F9E2 is the drain code with a specific and very common cause attached to it: Whirlpool asks first whether the garbage disposer knockout plug was removed. On a new installation where the drain hose was connected to a disposer, that plug is a solid disc inside the disposer inlet, and if it was not knocked out the dishwasher simply cannot drain.

- Disposer knockout plug never removed at installation
- Food waste clogging the disposer or its dishwasher inlet
- Kinked or crushed drain hose
- Blocked household drain line
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
If the dishwasher is newly installed or the disposer is new, look inside the disposer's dishwasher inlet for the knockout plug - it is removed by tapping it out with a screwdriver handle from inside the disposer, with the disposer switched off at the wall. Otherwise, check the disposer for a clog, run it to clear food waste, and straighten the drain hose if it is kinked. A kinked or clogged drain hose causes poor drainage or no drain at all.
