A cooktop hides more of its working parts than any other cooking appliance, so the diagnosis starts by separating the heat source from the control. On a radiant surface a dead zone is usually the element itself or the infinite switch that feeds it, and both are measured directly. Induction is different in kind: the coil, the cooling fan that keeps the electronics alive underneath, and the power board are the three things that matter, and a zone that intermittently drops out under load frequently turns out to be a thermal problem rather than a coil fault.
Gas cooktops come back to ignition and gas flow – electrodes, switches, the spark module, and burner ports that need clearing. Across all three types the supply is isolated before a panel comes off, and cracked glass ends the visit as a safety matter rather than a repair discussion.
Common Cooktop Problems
One zone dead while the rest of the surface still works
Radiant zone stuck on full heat whatever the knob is set to
Gas burner sparking continuously after the flame is lit
Induction zone refusing to recognise a pan
Touch controls unresponsive or triggering on their own
Glass surface chipped, scratched or cracked

Why Trust Us With Your Whirlpool Cooktop
- Measured, Not Assumed | The suspected cooktop component is put on a meter and shown to have failed before we recommend replacing it.
- Common cooktop Parts On Board | The parts that fail most often travel with the technician; anything rarer is ordered on the spot and the return visit is scheduled before we leave your home.
- Isolated Before Anything Opens | The supply to your cooktop - power, water or gas - is shut off and proven dead before a panel comes away, and high-voltage and refrigerant circuits stay with the technician.
- We Check Coverage First | Where your cooktop looks like it may still sit inside manufacturer coverage, we flag it before quoting - work by anyone other than an authorized technician can put that coverage at risk.
