What SaniLight Means
Whirlpool is clear about this one: the Sani LED flashes when the dishwasher detects that the temperature requirements for sanitisation were not met, and that means the dishes were not sanitised. It is a result message rather than a broken part, and it matters if you rely on the sanitise cycle for baby bottles or similar.
Common Causes of SaniLight
- Incoming water not hot enough at the start of the cycle
- Door opened during the cycle, letting heat out
- Power interruption mid-cycle
- Water heater set too low
- Failing heating element or temperature sensor
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check the water temperature: run the kitchen hot tap for about thirty seconds before starting the dishwasher so the machine starts with genuinely hot water rather than the cold water sitting in the pipe. Whirlpool also asks whether the door was opened or the power interrupted during the cycle, because heat escaping mid-cycle can stop the sanitise temperature being reached. Avoid opening the door during a sanitise cycle. If it keeps failing with a hot supply and an undisturbed cycle, the heating element or thermistor needs a technician.
