What ERR Means
Whirlpool documents ERR on ranges as an invalid entry when setting the controls - a temperature or time outside the allowed range, or an option combination the oven does not support. It is the control saying "that instruction does not make sense", not reporting a fault.
Common Causes of ERR
- Temperature or time entered outside the permitted range
- Incompatible cycle and option combination
- Stuck key registering an extra digit
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Press Cancel or Off, then re-enter the setting carefully. Check the range: an oven will not accept a bake temperature below or above its published limits, and some cycle and option combinations are mutually exclusive. If ERR appears even for a straightforward setting such as Bake at 350, that is different - clean and dry the panel and reset at the breaker for five minutes, and if it persists treat it as a keypad fault.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- None - re-entering a valid setting is normal use.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
