What LOC Means
Whirlpool documents LOC, a letter "L", or a padlock icon on microwaves as the control lock being enabled. The published release is simple: press and hold the Cancel key for three seconds. It is a child-lock feature, not a fault.
Common Causes of LOC
- Control lock enabled deliberately or accidentally
- Key held during cleaning, arming the lock
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Press and hold Cancel (or the key your model specifies) for about three seconds until the lock indicator clears. If nothing happens, check the manual for your model - some use a different key combination. If the lock will not release, unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker for a minute and try again.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- None - this is a user setting.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
