What LOC Means
LOC on a Whirlpool range means the control lockout is active - a deliberate feature that stops the oven being started accidentally or by a child. It is not a fault, and Whirlpool documents it alongside the other control messages.
Common Causes of LOC
- Control lockout enabled deliberately
- Key held long enough during cleaning to arm the lock
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Press and hold the lock key - often marked with a padlock or shared with another button - for three seconds until LOC clears. Your model's manual names the exact key. If the display shows LOC and will not clear, switch the range off at the breaker for a minute and try once more. Note that on most models the cooktop remains usable while the oven controls are locked.
