What OFF Means
Whirlpool documents the OFF display on ranges as meaning the oven is too hot for self-clean, or still cooling. The control will not start a cleaning cycle on an already-hot cavity, and it will not accept new instructions until the temperature has come down.
Common Causes of OFF
- Oven still hot from cooking or from an interrupted self-clean
- Cooling fan not running, slowing the cool-down
- Temperature sensor reading high on a cold oven
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Wait. Leave the door closed and the power on so the cooling fan can run, and give the oven time to come down - after heavy use or an interrupted self-clean that can be an hour or more. Once the display clears, set the cycle you want. If OFF persists on a genuinely cold oven, the temperature sensor is reading high and that needs a technician.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- None - waiting for the oven to cool is the correct response.
