What ERR Means
Whirlpool explains that ERR appears when the door has not been completely closed and latched, and that the dryer will not run unless the door is closed. It is an interlock message, not an electronic fault.
Common Causes of ERR
- Door pushed to but not latched
- Lint or laundry caught at the latch
- Worn or misaligned strike plate
- Failed door switch
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Push the door firmly until you hear the latch engage - Whirlpool notes the door can look shut without being latched. Check the latch and strike plate for lint, a trapped sock or a bent catch. Clean around the door switch area. If the door latches visibly but the dryer still reports ERR, the door switch is not registering and needs replacing by a technician.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- None for closing the door and clearing the latch area.
- The door switch is a safety interlock - replacement is technician work, and it must never be bypassed.
