What 1c Means

Whirlpool publishes a family of 1c codes on ranges - 1c1c, 1c2c, 1c31, 1c32, 1c4c, 1c6c, 1c7c, 1c81, 1c82 and 1c8c - and gives every one of them the same description: there may be a problem with the user interface or keypad, or the associated wiring. They are grouped here because the published guidance does not distinguish between them for owners.

Common Causes of 1c

  • Liquid or cleaner behind the touch panel
  • Failed keypad membrane
  • Object pressing against the controls
  • Connector or harness fault between panel and control

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Let the oven cool. Clean the touch panel with a barely damp cloth and dry it fully; never spray cleaner at a touch panel, since liquid behind the membrane is the usual cause of this family. Make sure nothing rests against the controls. Switch off at the breaker for five minutes and restore power. If any 1c code returns, the panel or its wiring needs a technician - quote the exact four characters, because the service documentation does distinguish them even though the owner-facing text does not.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Console access on a range means working next to 240 volt connections.
  • Touch panels are replaced as an assembly by a technician, not repaired.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

1c FAQ

Because Whirlpool publishes identical owner guidance for all of them; splitting them into ten near-identical pages would tell you nothing extra.

Exactly what your display shows - the service manual does separate them.
