What F01 Means
Whirlpool documents F01 on older electronic ranges as a possible problem with the oven temperature sensor, the control, or the associated wiring. The oven either cannot read its own temperature or is reading it implausibly, so it stops rather than guessing.
Common Causes of F01
- Failed oven temperature sensor (RTD probe)
- Damaged or pinched sensor wiring at the rear of the cavity
- Poor connector at the sensor plug
- Electronic oven control fault
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Let the oven cool completely first - a self-clean cycle leaves the cavity hot enough to burn for a long time after it ends. Then cut power at the breaker for five minutes and restore it; that clears a control that latched on a single bad reading. Run the oven at a moderate temperature with an oven thermometer inside to see whether it holds temperature. If the code returns, stop using the oven for cooking and book a diagnosis - the sensor is a probe inside the cavity wired back to the control, and both ends sit behind panels carrying 240 volts.

- A sensor fault left in place can let the oven overheat, so this is not a code to cook around.
