What U-u Means
Whirlpool documents the "U u" symbol as appearing if the pot is not suitable for induction cooking, is not positioned correctly, or is not of an appropriate size for the cooking zone. It is the cooktop's plain-language way of saying it cannot work with what is on the glass.
Common Causes of U-u
- Non-magnetic pan
- Pan smaller than the zone minimum
- Pan not centred
- Warped or ridged pan base
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check the pan with a magnet - it must stick firmly to the base. Centre the pan on the zone and make sure its base diameter matches or exceeds the minimum for that zone, which is listed in your manual. Very small pans on large zones commonly trigger this. Make sure the base is flat and the glass is clean and dry beneath it.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- None - this is entirely about cookware and placement.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
