What F7E1 Means
Whirlpool describes F7E1 on front-load machines as a motor speed sensing error: the motor cannot reach the speed the selected cycle needs. That can be the motor or its control, but it can also be something physically stopping the drum turning freely.
Common Causes of F7E1
- Drum physically obstructed by a trapped item
- Overloaded or badly balanced drum preventing the motor reaching speed
- Motor, rotor position sensor or drive belt fault
- Motor control board fault or wiring damage
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the washer off at the wall. Open the door and turn the drum by hand: it should spin freely with a little resistance, without grinding or catching. Take out anything heavy or tangled, and check nothing has slipped between the drum and the tub through the seal - underwire bras and coins are the usual offenders, and they make exactly this symptom. Restore power and run a Drain and Spin with an empty drum. If the drum will not turn freely, or the code returns on an empty machine, stop and book a visit rather than forcing further cycles.

- Anything involving the motor, belt or drive requires removing panels with mains wiring behind them.
- A drum that will not turn can also mean bearing failure, which is a strip-down job.
