Whirlpool Washer PF Code (Power Failure During a Cycle)

PF means a power failure interrupted the cycle. The washer is telling you the run did not finish because the supply dropped, not that a part has failed.

What PF Means

PF means a power failure interrupted the cycle. The washer is telling you the run did not finish because the supply dropped, not that a part has failed.

Common Causes of PF

  • Household power cut or brownout during the cycle
  • Loose or worn outlet, or a poor plug connection
  • Washer running through an extension lead
  • Breaker tripping under load

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Press and hold Start to resume the cycle, or press Power to clear the display and start fresh. If the load has been sitting wet for hours, run a Rinse and Spin before continuing. If PF appears repeatedly without any household power cuts, look at the supply: a shared circuit, a loose outlet, or an extension lead can all produce brief dropouts. A washer should be on its own properly rated outlet, not an extension cord.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • None for restarting the cycle.
  • Outlet, breaker or circuit work belongs to a qualified electrician.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

PF FAQ

Usually not - resume the cycle, or run a Rinse and Spin if it has been sitting.

A dropout of a fraction of a second is enough for the control and too brief to notice in the lighting.
