What DoorAjar Means
Whirlpool documents the Door Ajar Alarm as sounding when a refrigerator door or the freezer drawer has been open for five minutes while cooling is on, repeating every two minutes until the doors are closed. Whirlpool also notes you can mute the tone by touching any button on the control panel while leaving the doors open - the Door Ajar icon stays on the display.
Common Causes of DoorAjar
- Door or drawer left open, or blocked by contents
- Torn, distorted or sticky door gasket
- Refrigerator not level, so a door does not swing shut
- Overloaded door shelves pulling the door out of alignment
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Close every door and drawer and check what stopped one closing: an over-filled drawer, a bottle on a door shelf, or a food package caught at the seal are the usual culprits. Wipe the gasket and the cabinet face where they meet - sticky residue holds a door fractionally open. Whirlpool also points out that a refrigerator must be level for doors to close properly, so check that the appliance is level front to back and side to side and shim or adjust the feet if it is not. Then check food temperatures with a thermometer: below 40F in the fridge and 0F in the freezer.
