What TempAlarm Means
The temperature alarm on a Whirlpool refrigerator warns that a compartment has risen above the temperature it should hold. Like the power outage indicator, it is telling you about the food before it tells you about the appliance - which is the right order for a warm fridge or freezer.
Common Causes of TempAlarm
- Door left open or not sealing
- Large quantity of warm food added at once
- Internal air vents blocked by packages
- Condenser coils clogged with dust or pet hair
- Defrost, fan or sealed-system fault
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Start with the food, not the appliance: put a thermometer in each compartment and read it. Refrigerated food above 40F for more than two hours should be discarded; frozen food still holding ice crystals and at or below 40F can be refrozen. Then look for the obvious causes: a door not fully closed, a large warm load added recently, vents inside the cabinet blocked by packages, or condenser coils thick with dust. Clear the vents, vacuum the condenser coils if your model has accessible ones, and give it several hours with the doors shut. If the compartment will not return to temperature, book a diagnosis rather than repeatedly resetting the alarm.
