What H2OLight Means
The H2O indicator and the water filter status light are service reminders on Whirlpool refrigerators: the filter has reached the end of its rated life, or the control wants the status reset after a filter change. Whirlpool also documents a case where the status light will not reset, which is the usual reason people think the indicator is faulty.

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Fit a new filter of the type your model specifies, seating it fully - a filter not fully home is the commonest reason for a light that will not clear, and for water flow problems afterwards. Then reset the status: most models use a press-and-hold on the filter or water button for a few seconds. Run several litres of water through the dispenser afterwards to purge air, which also clears the sputtering that follows a filter change. If the light still will not reset with a correctly fitted filter, check the manual for your model's exact reset sequence before assuming a fault.
