What F3E2 Means
F3E2 is one of the few codes with a very specific published cause: Whirlpool says it can mean the hot and cold inlet hoses are installed the wrong way round, so the cold hose is on the hot inlet and vice versa. The washer sees water at the wrong temperature for the cycle it is running.
Common Causes of F3E2
- Hot and cold hoses connected to the wrong inlets after an install or a move
- Only one valve opened, or one hose not connected
- Temperature sensing fault inside the machine
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Close both water valves at the wall before touching a hose. Then trace each one: hot (usually the red-marked valve and hose) must land on the hot inlet at the back of the washer, cold on cold. Swap them if they are crossed, hand-tighten plus a light nip with pliers, open the valves slowly and check for drips before pushing the machine back. Whirlpool also notes that both valves need to be fully open and both hoses connected for the washer to work correctly.

- If the hoses are correct, the temperature sensor and inlet valve are internal parts for a technician.
