What F5E1 Means
F5E1 means the control is not getting a clean "closed" signal from the lid or door switch. Whirlpool's own first instruction is to make sure the door is completely closed and that nothing - clothing, packaging, shipping material - is blocking the switch.
Common Causes of F5E1
- Laundry or packaging trapped at the latch
- Lid or door not fully latched
- Worn or misaligned latch striker
- Failed lid or door switch, or a wiring fault
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Open the lid or door fully, clear the rim and the strike area, and look for a sock, a label or a piece of shipping foam sitting where the latch engages. Close it firmly and listen for the click. If the machine is newly delivered, check that all transit packaging has been removed. If the switch still does not register with a clear, firmly closed door, stop there: the switch and its wiring are inside the cabinet.
