What F5E2 Means
F5E2 means the washer cannot engage its lid or door lock. On top-load machines Whirlpool says to check the lid lock area for an obstruction; on front-load machines the same code is described as the door not locking properly. Either way the cycle will not start, because the machine will not spin unlocked.
Common Causes of F5E2
- Object in the lid lock recess or across the latch plate
- Clothing caught in the lid or door opening
- Misaligned lid, door or latch striker
- Failed lid lock assembly or its wiring
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Open the lid or door and look directly at the lock area - the recess the lock bolt drops into on a top-loader, the latch plate on a front-loader. Remove anything in it: a stray sock, a bra wire, a plastic clip, or shipping material on a new machine. Wipe the area clean, close firmly and try again. If the lock still will not engage on an unobstructed latch, the lock assembly itself is failing and needs a technician.
